Símarómur

Símarómur is an Icelandic text-to-speech app for mobile devices, the first Icelandic speech synthesis voices for iPhone and iPad! The voices work as an Icelandic system voice on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. The app connects with accessibility applications such as Voice Over and Spoken Content/Read & Speak (iOS), Talk Back and Accessibility Suite (Android). Additionally, all applications that use system voices can utilize Símarómur's voices. With Símarómur's help, your device can now read all Icelandic texts. The newest version of Símarómur for iPhone/iPad offers six Icelandic voices, and for three of them three different speaking styles can be selected.

NOTE: As of March 25 2026 iOS 26.4 is available. In this update the previous problems with iOS 26 and third party TTS system voices has been fixed and Símarómur now works seamlessly. However, the language detection for Icelandic does not work as expected and thus it is necessary to select a voice from Símarómur for English as well as Icelandic.
